Elobixibat Hydrate

Elobixibat hydrate is used to treat chronic constipation by increasing bile acid secretion in the intestine, which stimulates bowel movements and softens stool. It is also being studied for other uses, such as in bowel preparation for colonoscopy and potentially for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. Primary use Chronic constipation: Elobixibat hydrate works by inhibiting the ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT). This increases the concentration of bile acids in the colon, which promotes water secretion and improves colonic motility, making it easier to have a bowel movement.
